Distance Learning Course Description


COURSE NAME: Agribusiness: Economics & Marketing

SCHOOL DISTRICT: Schoharie

MAXIMUM TOTAL CLASS ENROLLMENT - ALL SITES: 35

This course will discuss the exciting field of Business and Agriculture along with the framework of modern
agriculture. Students will work on different computer systems collecting data on commodities and running
farm enterprises through work on "State Your Aces" and SimFarm." Attention will be paid to operation and
management of commodities.

Topics covered in class will include" Why is marketing important; price movement over time; trace in futures
and options; basics in managing price risk, forward pricing and marketing strategies for crops and livestock,
and a changing market place. Finally students will be prepared to fill out a Cornell Farm Account Book, and
learn about International Agriculture using the internet.

Class meets often in the computer lab to complete projects. A PowerPoint presentation will complete the
year.
