COURSE PREREQUISITES:
Basic knowledge of Chinese language is necessary
to take this course (although this does not necessarily
mean you had to have taken my first-year course to enroll in this
one). Other exposure to the Chinese
language might make you capable to succeed in this intermediate level
language course. Contact the
instructor for further clarification.
BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE:
This exciting new course is designed for individuals
who wish to continue
to learn about the most widely spoken language in the world today.
Reading and writing
basic Chinese characters will be the main emphasis in this continuation
of the first year
class. In fact, there will be an increase amount of character writing
in this second-year
class than in the previous year. Students, however, will continue
to learn about essential
grammar patterns and syntax structures as they become increasingly
familiar with one of
the world's oldest culture and civilization. Core aspect of Chinese
culture and history will
be also be explored through out this year-long course through both
individual as well as
group project-based research.
OTHER NOTES / MISCELLANEOUS:
This class will continue to involve numerous short
readings, many written reviews on these short readings, and students
are expected to be willing to participate in class work as well as
work independently and in small group settings for these projects.
Homework will be unpredictably given on the whim of the instructor.
