Distance Learning Course Description


COURSE NAME: Journalism

SCHOOL DISTRICT: Maple Hill (Schodack Central)

COURSE PREREQUISITES:

BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE: This course will provide an overview of the field of journalism,
focusing primarily on the print media, with some attention to broadcast and radio news reporting.

Students will be exposed to the fundamentals of news and feature writing, newspaper layout and
photojournalism.

The course will also cover the history of the news industry and the impact of the First Amendment to the
press.

OTHER NOTES / MISCELLANEOUS:
Students will develop a portfolio of articles that could be used for a school or local newspaper.
