COURSE NAME: AP English Language and Composition

BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE: This AP English course for juniors provides instruction in prose
analysis as well as analytical and persuasive writing using American literature as the subject of study.

Students examine the interactions among subject, authorial purpose, audience needs, and the resources of
the English language. Emphasis is placed on reading a variety of texts and writing a variety of tasks so that
students recognize the language patterns that authors have created and can describe their responses to
these patterns. They also learn to gather relevant information, develop a discourse, organize details, and
control language relevant to the needs of an audience.

OTHER NOTES / MISCELLANEOUS: The Advanced Placement exam is required of all students.
The fee ($84.00 in 2008) must be paid by March 31st.
