Distance Learning Course Description


COURSE NAME: AP World History

SCHOOL DISTRICT: Duanesburg

COURSE PREREQUISITES: Sophomores


BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE: Advanced Placement World History will be a year-long course
that covers the history of humanity from its earliest origins to the modern day. Students will be expected
to fulfill the requirements of the Regents syllabus in World History in addition to taking the A.P. Exam in
World History administered by the College Board (fee).

Major areas of study will include the interaction of human groups across time through trade, war and climate
shifts. Particular attention will be paid to the development of major world religions and gender roles that
developed in various societies.

Students are required to take the AP exam and are responsible for the payment of the examination fee.
This exam will be held in May. After the AP exam, students will use the final month of the school year to
prepare for the New York State Regents Examination in World History and Geography.

There will be weekly essays, regular multiple-choice and essay exams, as well as an 8-10 page research
paper during the two semesters of the course.

Final approval for entrance to this class will require the approval of the Social Studies department.
