COURSE NAME: Civil War

SCHOOL DISTRICT: Cobleskill-Richmondville

COURSE PREREQUISITES: One semester of U.S. History and Government

BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE: This one-semester course is designed to review the basic causes
of the American Civil War: slavery, economics, and politics. James McPherson's Battle Cry Freedom is used
as the text. Weekly quizzes are based on text readings and discussions. Student projects are due at
various times throughout the course.

One field trip is planned each year. A variety of video material is used in the class including Roots, Gettysburg, and Ken Burns's The Civil War.
