Distance Learning Course Description

COURSE NAME: Music Theory

SCHOOL DISTRICT: Hadley-Luzerne

INSTRUCTOR: Pam Hastings

Full Year

COURSE PREREQUISITES: Basic music reading skills in a single clef are a prerequisite for this class.

BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE: Music Theory is a year-long, credit-bearing course that takes an
in-depth look at the components of musical composition and an analysis of works. The class meets every
day.

We work on curriculum that leads to an understanding of scales, chords, key signatures, composition,
transposition, and an analysis of small and large works. You do not have to play an instrument in order to
take this course.

If you are interested:

  • In knowing "how music works"
  • In composing your own music
  • In understanding why you like some musical styles and not others
Then this is the course for you. You can expect to leave the course a better musician… promise!
