COURSE PREREQUISITES: This course is open to students who have successfully completed one year of High
School English.

BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE: This one-semester course is designed to guide students as they
explore creative writing genres and develop their own style of creative writing.

Students will read, discuss, and analyze published works of creative writing to gain a deeper understanding
of individual writing styles. Each student will create a writing portfolio of their work that demonstrates
knowledge of a variety of creative writing genres.

Students will also be required to submit several original pieces that will be "published" in a classroom
collection of creative writing.
