Distance Learning Course Description

COURSE NAME: AP Economics

SCHOOL DISTRICT: Cohoes

INSTRUCTOR: TBD

FULL YEAR

MAXIMUM TOTAL CLASS ENROLLMENT - ALL SITES: Flexible

COURSE PREREQUISITES:

BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE: Economics is the social science that studies the choices that
individuals, businesses, governments, and entire societies make as they cope with scarcity and the
incentives that influence and reconcile those choices.

Our textbook "Foundations of Economics" by Robin Bade and Michael Parkin focuses on core topics with
maximum flexibility. The textbook approaches two major components of economics - microeconomics and
macroeconomics with equal understandability.

Microecononomics is the study of the choices that individuals and businesses make, the way these choices
interact in markets, and are influenced by governments. Macroeconomics is the study of the aggregate
effects on the national economy and the global economy of the choices that individuals, businesses, and
governments make.

OTHER NOTES / MISCELLANEOUS: The AP Economics exam is given only as a two test choice - these
choices are a micro and/or macro focus. Each exam is two (2) hours and 10 minutes long. Our focus will be
Macroeconomics. Each exam represents a one-semester introductory college course. Even though our focus
is macroeconomics, the instructor will attempt to prepare all students to challenge the Microeconomics
portion if they choose.

Each AP exam consists of 60 multiple choice questions to be completed in 70 minutes and a free response
section consisting of three (3) essays to be completed in one (1) hour. These essays are of the long and
short variety.
