Distance Learning Course Description

COURSE NAME: AP U.S. History

SCHOOL DISTRICT: Warrensburg

INSTRUCTOR: Io Bruce

Full Year

COURSE PREREQUISITES: Any student who is successfully participating in Regents Social Studies is eligible to
be considered for the Advanced Placement program. Student selection will be based on the recommendation
of the Social Studies Department and the submission of a required essay. The essay must be turned in by
the end of May of the previous school year.

BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE: This course enables students that have a particular interest or
aptitude to study U.S. History. The Advanced Placement Course in U.S. History is designed to provide
students with the analytical skill and factual knowledge necessary to deal critically with the problems and
materials in U.S. History. Students should learn to assess historical materials - their relevance to a given
interpretive problem, their reliability, and their importance- and to weigh the evidence and interpretations
presented in historical scholarship.

This Advanced Placement American History course is equivalent to a full year introductory college survey
course in American History. Successful completion of this course will enable the student to take and fulfill the
A.P. exam requirements for college credit given in May. The remaining class time will be spent studying and
reviewing for the New York State Regents exam given in June.
