Distance Learning Course Description


COURSE NAME: AP/SUNY World History

SCHOOL DISTRICT: Cohoes

COURSE PREREQUISITES: 10th Grade

BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE: The Advanced Placement World History exam will be a year-long
course which will cover the origins of human civilization from its earliest times to the modern day. The exam
highlights six overarching themes: impact of societal interactions, change and continuity across world history
periods, impact of technology and demography, social and gender structures, cultural and intellectual
developments, and functions and structures of states.

Students are required to take the AP exam and are responsible for the payment of the exam fee. In addition,
SUNY credit will be offered. The AP exam will be held in May. In June, the students will be required to take
the New York State Regents Examination in Global History and Geography.

There will be weekly essays, exams, and Document Based Questions (DBQ) on a regular basis. Final approval
for entrance to the class will require the approval of the Social Studies Department.
