COURSE PREREQUISITES: - Successful completion
of Global History 10 and the Regents exam.
BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION
/ OUTLINE: This course is designed to provide students
with the analytical skills
and factual knowledge necessary to deal critically with the problems
and materials in US History.
The program prepares students for intermediate and advanced college
course by making demands upon them
equivalent to those made by full year introductory college courses.
Students learn to assess historical
material, their relevance to given interpretive problems, their
reliability, and their importance, and to weigh
the evidence and interpretations presented in historical scholarships.
In addition to exposing students to a very detailed list of historical
content, student will analyze and
interpret primary sources, including commentary material, maps,
statistical tables, and pictorial and graphic
evidence of historical events. Students will learn to take notes
from both printed materials and lectures or
discussions, write essay examinations and write analytical and
research papers.
OTHER NOTES / MISCELLANEOUS:
The Advanced Placement exam is given in May for
a fee. The Regents exam in US History and Government is
also given in June. Students can also choose to concurrently enroll
at Fulton Montgomery Community College
in Social Science 283 and 284 at a reduced rate of tuition and
earn six college credits.
