Distance Learning Course Description



COURSE NAME: Astronomy

SCHOOL DISTRICT: Wells

INSTRUCTOR: Chris Young

HALF YEAR

MAXIMUM TOTAL CLASS ENROLLMENT - ALL SITES: 12

COURSE PREREQUISITES: Class is for juniors and seniors.


BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE: Study the Earth's solar system and night sky using computer
software. We will learn how to simulate the night sky from anywhere in the world over a span of tens of
thousands of years. We will also study our sun, moon, and neighboring planets. We will look at some of the
phenomena occurring in our solar system such as transits, eclipses, conjunctions, etc.


OTHER NOTES / MISCELLANEOUS: Schools will need to have "The Sky" software installed on laptops for
student use during this class. PCs work best; some Mac operating systems are not compatible.
