Distance Learning Course Description


COURSE NAME: Chinese Language and Culture I

SCHOOL DISTRICT: Maple Hill High School - Schodack Central School District

COURSE PREREQUISITES: No previous knowledge of Chinese is necessary to take this course.

BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE: This exciting course is designed for individuals who wish to learn
the most widely spoken language in the world today.

In addition to learning how to read and write basic Chinese characters, students will also be introduced to
essential grammar and listening comprehension skills that will aid them in becoming familiar with one of the
world's oldest culture and civilization.

Core aspect of Chinese culture and history will be explored through out this year-long course through
individual as well as group project-based research.

OTHER NOTES / MISCELLANEOUS:

This class will involve numerous short readings as well as many in-class textbook and workbook exercises.
Homework will be given unpredictably on the whim of the instructor and that may require numerous written
reviews on short readings and project-based researches that require students to either work independently
or within small group settings.
