Distance Learning Course Description



COURSE NAME: Modern Cosmology

SCHOOL DISTRICT: Wells

INSTRUCTOR: Chris Young

HALF YEAR (Spring)

MAXIMUM TOTAL CLASS ENROLLMENT - ALL SITES: 12

COURSE PREREQUISITES: Grades 11 & 12. Astronomy is offered in the Fall semester and is encouraged but
not necessary.


BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE: Go beyond the solar system and learn about what lies in our galaxy
and our universe! We will study the theories and data gathering that scientists have come up with to
describe the organization of our universe and its origin. We will also look at how scientists discover exo-
planets and study the possibility of life on other planets. We will discuss why scientists believe in black holes,
dark matter, and dark energy.


OTHER NOTES / MISCELLANEOUS: No software is used for this class (Astronomy does require software).
