Distance Learning Course Description



COURSE NAME: Equine Studies

SCHOOL DISTRICT: Schuylerville

INSTRUCTOR: Levi Cahan

Full Year

COURSE PREREQUISITES: -  None. Open to students grades 9-12.

BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE: Topics will include history of horses, breeds, uses and events,
health, nutrition, management, training, behavior, basic care, foot and leg care, equipment, and careers in
the horse industry.

Students will view video from top horse people, hear quest speakers such as veterinarians, breeders, horse
show and other horse event competitors.

Field trips will be offered to horse farms, race tracks, a dude ranch, and a horse show.

OTHER NOTES / MISCELLANEOUS: Students may also participate in FFA activities such as horse judging at
the New York State Fair, as well as other leadership activities.
