Distance Learning Course Description



COURSE NAME: Forensic Science

SCHOOL DISTRICT: HFM BOCES

INSTRUCTOR: Erika Bucenec

Full Year

COURSE PREREQUISITES: Would prefer if student completed high school level Biology.


BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE:

This course will introduce you to basic scientific principles and techniques used by law enforcement agencies
when they investigate a crime scene. The importance of proper collection and identification of relevant
physical evidence using systematic procedures of search, collection, documentation, and analysis of
evidence will be the main focus of this course.

We will study how the properties of physical evidence can be used to reconstruct the events surrounding
the commission of a crime and how it can connect the victim to the perpetrator of a crime.

We will also use broadcast television programs, newspaper articles, and the internet to gain insight into the
methods to which scientific investigating can help solve crimes. Laboratory exercises will also be incorporated
during the scheduled class.
