Distance Learning Course Description


COURSE NAME: Health

SCHOOL DISTRICT: Duanesburg

COURSE PREREQUISITES: Grade Level 9-12.


BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE: This class is a realistic view of ongoing issues in Health Education
to best prepare the students for health issues they may face later in life. This class places strong emphas
is on promoting healthy lifestyles through various health topics.

Students will gain knowledge through a variety o f learning styles such as projects, posters, individual and
group presentations, lectures, class discussions, videos, and guided research. Students will be made aware
of choices they will have to make regarding their health and safety.

Topics that will be covered are as follows: physical, mental/emotional, and social health, communication
skills, bullying, stress, goal setting, time management, substance use and abuse, smoking and other forms
of tobacco, sexuality, parenting, unintentional/intentional injuries and diseases, personal hygiene, fitness,
nutrition and basic first aid skills.

This class complies with both New York State and National Health Education Standards and is required for
graduation.
