BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE: This is a twenty week course designed to examine the role of music
in the film industry. Students will trace music's earliest contributions in Hollywood from silent films to present
day film scoring.

Special emphasis will be placed on the MGM film musical. Through readings, audio and video recordings, and
music analysis, students in this course will complete various projects and presentations.
