Distance Learning Course Description


COURSE NAME: Italian 1 (2014-2015)

SCHOOL DISTRICT: Schalmont High School

INSTRUCTOR: Mr. Orlando

FULL YEAR

MAXIMUM TOTAL CLASS ENROLLMENT - ALL SITES: No more than 6 students at receive sites if there are 3
sites total. No more than 12 students if there are only 2 sites total.

COURSE PREREQUISITES: Course is open to seniors first and underclassmen as space permits. Students must
have completed a minimum of a 3 year sequence in another language before enrolling in Italian 1.


BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE: The purpose of this course is to develop basic communication skills
in listening, speaking, reading and writing in Italian and to give students an introduction to the long, rich
culture of Italy. Students will engage in small and whole group work to build vocabulary and conversational
skills. They will use a variety of media such as music, videos, magazines, newspapers, games, Internet
sources and textbook materials. Class participation is a must. Oral communication in Italian is essential to
learning the language! This is a one-credit course that meets every day for the whole year. Benvenuti in
italiano!

OTHER NOTES / MISCELLANEOUS: Course is recommended to students who have studied a minimum of 3
years of an alternative language.
