Distance Learning Course Description


COURSE NAME: Journalism

SCHOOL DISTRICT: Wells

INSTRUCTOR: Matthew Deible

HALF YEAR: Fall Semester

COURSE PREREQUISITES: English 9 and 10; CO-REQUISITE: English 11 or 12

BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Journalism begins with ethics, truth vs. opinion, and ethical interviewing and reporting practices. With that
foundation, students learn fact-gathering, relationship-building and objective writing skills. We read and
evaluate professional and student work, then students interview, research, cross-check, etc. in writing their
own journalism. Students design, lay out, edit, publish and distribute the newspaper using Microsoft
products.
