MAXIMUM TOTAL CLASS ENROLLMENT
- ALL SITES: No more than 6 students at receive sites if there
are 3
sites total. No more than 12 students if there are only 2 sites
total.
COURSE PREREQUISITES: Course is open to students
who have been selected through the cooperation of
their teacher and guidance counselor as either struggling or unable
to achieve the minimum requirements for
the completion of their 1 credit of high school foreign language
and will not be continuing a foreign language
sequence for an advanced Regents diploma. This student may not
progress to level 2 of high school Spanish
without taking and passing the traditional Spanish 1 class.
BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE: This course
is designed for students attempting to earn their
minimum 1 credit requirement of high school level Spanish. It
encompasses the teaching of Spanish through
the study of culture and traditions from the various Spanish speaking
countries from around the world. This
course uses Spanish holidays, food, music, dance, art, literature,
history and current events to master basic
skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. It is expected
that you will actively participate in listening
and speaking Spanish during class and maintain a notebook for
personal use and instructional materials.
Willingness to speak Spanish and actively participate in class
is essential.
OTHER NOTES / MISCELLANEOUS: This course meets
and follows the NYS Checkpoint A Standards and the
Common Core Standards for learning a foreign language. This course
is designed to teach traditional Spanish
in a non-traditional way.
