Distance Learning Course Description




COURSE NAME: Sports and Society

SCHOOL DISTRICT: South Glens Falls

FULL YEAR

MAXIMUM TOTAL CLASS ENROLLMENT - ALL SITES: no more than 8 students total at receive sites

COURSE PREREQUISITES: open to students in grades 10-12


BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE: ___This course will study the role of sports around the world and
how sports affect today's society with particular attention on how sports are organized, played, experienced,
observed, perceived and critiqued. Specific topics include youth sports, media, current trends, money,
politics, race, gender, culture, commercialization, violence, education and college sports.

Sports will also be studied as a microcosm of society, in that while studying issues in sports, we will also be
able to learn about society.

OTHER NOTES / MISCELLANEOUS: May be used to fulfill required credit in English.
