Distance Learning Course Description

COURSE NAME: World War II

SCHOOL DISTRICT: Moriah Central School

INSTRUCTOR: Mr. Anderson

HALF YEAR:

MAXIMUM TOTAL CLASS ENROLLMENT - ALL SITES: 36

COURSE PREREQUISITES:

BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE: This course will be the second part of two half-year sessions, with
World War I as the first part of the course.

Each world war will be covered in depth. The underlying causes, conflicts, short term, and long term events
will be studies thoroughly.

The same pattern will follow as was used in the World War I part of the class. Causes, action, and results of
this greater and more deadly war will be covered in greater detail.

The class will take an in depth look at why and how the world falls into another, even deadlier conflict, within
thirty years of the previous major global conflict. The Second World War takes a toll of sixty million people.
How and why this conflict occurred will be the central emphasis of study for this class. The failure of
Germany's first experiment with democracy and the rise of fascism in Europe will be identified as both a result
of the First World War and a cause of the Second World War. The study of Japanese imperialism and rapid
industrialization will be an essential aspect in covering the war in Asia and the Pacific.

OTHER NOTES / MISCELLANEOUS: Grades will be determined by three quizzes each marking period as
well as a midterm and final.

Possible college credit available.
