Distance Learning Course Description


COURSE NAME: AP English Language And Composition

SCHOOL DISTRICT: Granville Central School District

INSTRUCTOR: TBD

Full Year

COURSE PREREQUISITES: (Grade 10) Entrance into this course is based on teacher recommendation,
achievement of at least an 85% average for current Honors students and at least a
90% average for
current Regents students. Additionally, potential students must receive a "Satisfactory Score" on an AP
Qualifying Examination prior to enrolling in this course. Finally, all students enrolled in this course are
expected to complete a summer assignment.


BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION/OUTLINE: The purpose of this course is to help students "write effectively
and confidently in their college courses across the curriculum and in their professional and
personal lives."

The course is organized according to the requirements and guidelines of the College
Board and, therefore,
students are expected to read critically, think analytically, and communicate
clearly both in writing and
speech.

OTHER NOTES/MISCELLANEOUS: Successful candidates are expected to sit for the nationally administered
AP Exam in spring. The responsibility for paying for this Exam (approx. $85) lies with the student.

The achievement of a qualifying score on the national Exam may result in college credit for the course.

Students must also take the Comprehensive English Regents exam in June.
