Distance Learning Course Description


COURSE NAME: Abnormal Psychology

SCHOOL DISTRICT: Maple Hill (Schodack Central)

COURSE PREREQUISITES: Biology and Introduction to Psychology (preferred)

BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE: This course will examine different views on the nature, causes and
treatment of psychological disorders.

Students will review a variety of disorders, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders,
schizophrenic disorders and childhood disorders.

An historical overview of mental health services and current legal issues will be discussed, along with a
variety of treatments used for patients, such as behavior therapy, group therapy, psychotherapy and
biological treatment.
