Distance Learning Course Description


COURSE NAME: AP Biology

SCHOOL DISTRICT: Schuylerville

INSTRUCTOR: Rose Cenci

Full Year

COURSE PREREQUISITES: 85 on Regents Biology exam, successful completion of Regents Chemistry, and
permission from instructor


BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE: AP Biology is designed to provide students with the conceptual
framework, factual knowledge, and analytical skills necessary to deal critically with the rapidly changing
science of biology.

The three main topics covered and the percentage of coverage for each topic is as follows:
Molecules and Cells: 25%
Heredity and Evolution: 25%
Organisms and Populations: 50%

There is a lab component included in the AP Biology course, which also encourages higher level thinking.
That lab will be offered at a time separate from the Distance Learning course, and will take place in a lab
setting at the student's home school.

The AP Biology course is designed to be the equivalent of a college introductory biology course usually taken
by biology majors during their first year of college. The AP Biology exam is taken in early May.
