COURSE PREREQUISITES: Successful
completion of one year of an intermediate level course in the
French
language beyond the NYS Comprehensive Regents Examination in French.
BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE: This advanced
course is offered to those high school students who
have already completed four years of high school French. It is
the equivalent of a second semester of an
intermediate college level course of study.
Participants continue to gain proficiency in the study of the
French language, culture and literature. The
class provides a thorough review of grammar and aims to refine
the following skills: vocabulary enrichment,
reading, composition and conversation. Students will study a variety
of topics designed to meet their
interests and talents. A study of one major literary work is required.
Students who satisfactorily complete
the course receive one high school credit.
As an option, students can participate in the SUNY Albany University
in the High School Program through
which they may receive 4 college credits of foreign language study
at the intermediate level.
OTHER NOTES / MISCELLANEOUS:
To exercise the option of earning college credit, the individual
must show a high degree of commitment to
prepare extensively and independently for course work at the college
level. A tuition fee of $120 is required
to enroll in the course.
