COURSE NAME: Latin American Studies: "Voices and Film"

BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE: This full-year course will focus on Latin American nations and
peoples from early times until modern day. Specific attention will be given to the Aztec and Incan Empires,
European conquest and colonization, revolutions, independence movements, and culture up through modern
day.

Students will examine primary source narratives of people who lived during these times. Additionally,
they will evaluate films on the subject.

Required Text: Latin America and Its People, Second Edition, By Cheryl E. Martin and Mark Waaerman,
ISBN# 0-205-52053-7.

There will be other texts that include narrative history.
