This course enables students that have a particular interest or aptitude to study U.S. History. The Advanced Placement Course in U.S. History is designed to provide students with the analytic skill and factual knowledge necessary to deal critically with the problems and materials in U.S. History. Students should learn to assess historical materials in regard to their relevance to a given interpretive problem, their reliability, and their importance as well as weigh the evidence and interpretations presented in historical scholarship.
This advanced placement American history course is equivalent to a full-year introductory college survey course in American history. Successful completion of this course will enable the student to take and fulfill the AP exam requirements for college credit given in May. The remaining class time will be spent studying and reviewing for the New York State Regents exam given in June.
