COURSE PREREQUISITES: 6-8 grade students may
enroll as a supplement to either Home & Careers or a
Technology Careers program only.
BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION
/ OUTLINE: The "Career Connections" curriculum is a
full year career discovery
curriculum focusing on the 6 CDOS Career clusters. Students will
explore occupational choices through
interactive activities, which facilitate self-examination and
discovery of one's talents skills and abilities.
The culminating activity, a letterboxing hunt, will be hosted
at a local nature preserve.
OTHER NOTES / MISCELLANEOUS: This is a "Drop
In Curriculum" and may be customized to meet your
scheduling need. Students design and construct their own letterboxes
based on career inventory responses.
Activities overview:
- Virtual tours of the various Career Center
programs.
- Career Clusters Bingo -- Students match various
careers with associated Career clusters.
- Monthly newsletters -- Teachers receive monthly
"Career Connections" newsletters to send or mail to
parents.
- Features include, Home and Careers "students
in action", hot job trends and more.
- Letterboxing construction and treasure hunt
-- the interactive piece throughout the program that helps
student to discover their aptitude, talents, skills, and occupational
interests.
- Career profile: Students will complete a occupational
aptitude profile to retain in their career development folder
at school.
Student supplies for this course are minimal
and may be offset by grant monies when available.
