BRIEF
COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE:
The overall objectives of
the class are to have the
students
examine what it means to be
a responsible citizen, from
the study of one of the most
seminal and tragic
events in human history. Students
will be exposed to issues
they face in their everyday
lives, such as
fairness, justice, individual
identity, peer pressure, conformity,
indifference, and obedience.
Topics and
themes that will be studied
include, but are not limited
to:

Anti-Semitism in world history
·
Rise of Hitler/Nazi German
·
The Evolution of the Holocaust
- from its origins to the
"Final Solution"
·
The dangers of apathy and
indifference by a nation or
people
·
The use and abuse of power
·
Human reactions/responses
when confronted with civil
rights violations
·
The experience of European
Jews under Nazi Germany 1933-1945
·
The Allied response to the
discovery of the Holocaust
·
The short/long term global
impact of the Holocaust
·
Punishment and prosecution
of those responsible
