Distance Learning Course Description

COURSE NAME: Music History

SCHOOL DISTRICT: Keene

INSTRUCTOR: Lynn DeWalt

Half Year

COURSE PREREQUISITES: Helpful if students are either vocalists or instrumentalists, but not required.

BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE: Music History will complement Music Theory I. The course will
provide students with a broad history of music from its beginnings through the major eras (Renaissance,
Baroque, Classical, etc.) to the modern era. Students will be expected to learn facts about composers and
their music, and be able to identify music according to period and composer. These requirements are
necessary to distinguish the course from a Music in Our Lives or General Music course at the high school
level.

OTHER NOTES / MISCELLANEOUS: This course will count as a half credit toward either an arts or music
sequence.
