BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE: This class stresses the step-by-step instruction in the
fundamentals of reading and writing the "Language" of music. Basics such as the principles of notation
and scale and chordal construction, melodic and harmonic techniques and vocabulary are developed.
Students will use a keyboard to analyze, arrange and transpose music effectively. Students will be
required to write and perform short pieces that they have composed.
