Distance Learning Course Description


COURSE NAME: Music Theory I

SCHOOL DISTRICT: Keene

INSTRUCTOR: Lynn DeWalt

Half Year

COURSE PREREQUISITES: None for students. Receive sites need at least one piano keyboard - multitimbral
access to Internet.

BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE: Students will learn the basics in notation, analysis, and composition
of music. While the emphasis will be on Western Classical style, other genres will be explored. Each student
will also learn basic piano skills and chord construction. Evaluation will be based on both written exams and
performance (voice, instrument). Sight reading training and interval recognition will be available.

OTHER NOTES / MISCELLANEOUS: The pace of the class will be determined by student ability and prior
knowledge. Independent projects will be available to challenge more advanced students. Maximum of twelve
(12) students per site.
