Distance Learning Course Description


COURSE NAME: Sports and Entertainment Marketing

SCHOOL DISTRICT: Berne-Knox-Westerlo

INSTRUCTOR: Mike Baggetta

COURSE PREREQUISITES:  

BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION / OUTLINE: This course will address issues and concepts in the 21st Century
as they relate to basic marketing functions and processes. The specific areas of application will be in
sports and athletic marketing, entertainment and "personality" management (differentiate between
professional and amateur athletes), and event and venue operation and promotion. The following topics
will also be discussed: marketing products through sports; sponsorships; promotion and the concepts of
"endorsements"; public relations, fan programming; community service and image considerations. There
has yet to be a product invented or an athlete/entertainer or venue that doesn't need to be promoted.
