2006-2007 is the 14th year of distance learning programming in the region. Courses were first offered between five Schoharie County sites in 1993.

Program Offerings:     Master Combined Class Schedule Grid - All Schools All Regions A-Z

  • 56 semester and full-year courses in 80 sections are being taught over the system during the 2006-2007 school year.
  • Approximately 1075 students are participating in the distance learning program, with many students taking multiple distance learning courses.
  • 58 instructors are teaching over the system this year, including a number of instructors who are teaching more than one period a day via the network.
  • Approximately 150 students participated in two different summer school programs via distance learning during the summer 2006. Courses were offered from 8:00 in the morning to 6:00 at night.
  • Distance learning network schools and the BOCES' continue to offer professional development workshops for district staff over the system, including Classroom Management, Transportation Staff/Bus Driver Training, NYS Coaching Certification, Model Schools programs and new teacher workshops.

Program Developments:

  • The Distance Learning Network is a state-of-the-art integrated voice, video, and data network, one of the first of its kind in the state.
  • The ATM network standard has allowed for the expansion of distance learning into new areas:

    • Four schools, Corinth, Hadley-Luzerne, Johnsburg and Moriah completed DL installations this year.
    • Regional interconnections to districts in other BOCES Regions such as Broome-Tioga, Cayuga-Onondaga, Oneida-Herkimer-Madison and Oswego continue to expand our regional course opportunities.

  • A videoconferencing gateway at the Regional Distance Learning Support Facility, allows schools to use their Distance Learning classrooms to connect to anyone across the country or world with basic videoconferencing equipment (for electronic field trips, discussions with experts in a particular field, and college courses).
  • Most Distance Learning schools are using the distance learning network for data services as well, including Internet access and library automation.
